The Artist-Widower

This is my worst fear. Nothing... NOTHING... scares me more than this nightmare. For these paintings in my room will represent the pain, suffer, anger, emptiness, and hate that I would have if I ever lost the single most important thing in my life. The woman that I love is one in a million, I have never met anyone whose accepted me, tolerated my personality, understood where I'm coming from, and loved me so unconditionally just for who I am, even when I had nothing and wasn't the best boyfriend. She is faithful, understanding, social, and such a positive presence in life. I will NEVER find someone so right for me and the future that we hold together. I don't know many fears that will affect the rest of your life... but this will... And I hope to God that my career as an artist never takes it's turn into this dark alley, for if it does, I will devote my life to expressing the pain, anger and loneliness I feel inside to share with the world...

Finals haven't allowed me to work on this to the best I can =/ . Great topic though Adam.

  1. Nice, i like it a lot. The story really reads well, and your comp is nice. My only Crit is that I think you should adjust the levels to make the darks a bit darker so you'll pop out a little more. Good one.

  2. Very haunting and emotional piece, i really like it. I agree adjusting the values making the darks a little darker would REALLY add to the mood of the work. Awesome.

  4. Painted on a 6x6 canvas then scanned in, digitally painted myself, and added some shadows and tried to adjust the values on the entire piece. I definitely agree with increasing the darkness would add more intensity to it. Thanks for the feedback guys

  6. Hey greg, nice post man. Love the contrast in scale between the figure and face in the portrait, I really feel the epic sense of loss from the size of the portrait, and the fact that its embedded into this large square element makes me think that it is unmovable and permanent. Like the skin color and anatomy and the texture of the paint, gives a good three dimensional feel I think.

I would consider changing the color of the yellow table, I think sense its the only yellow in the painting, it kind of draws my attention off to the left, where Im geussing youd like it focused between the story of the two characters. Trying to give you a crit worthy of your effort, I doubt it cause it looks like you took the time. Really nice work sir

  9. Dude im really loving this Greg.

Like others said, nice composition... and placement of ur different elements as they break the image plane pretty nicely. The only thing as far as that goes though is the fact that the painting of ying seems centered and then starts to kinda make the image look like a frame with a square in the middle... symmetry. But ofcourse its helps steer away when you have stuff on the sides. I like the rendering on the figure... looks pretty good dude. the overall color scheme is pretty dark and cool... i dig the color choice man. And ofcourse the message is very deep and as jeff said... moving.

Really nice bud. Oh btw... im curious just like Tom... traditional? Digital? both?
