Anthropomorphomosism

What the deadline on posts? Is it midnight monday or midnight sunday? Anyways, here's my anthropo- what ever. Here's my concept of an inanimate object getting the human treatment. A lamp reading a nail biting thriller.

p.s. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I can't figure out why my images aren't enlarging. arg!

WEEK 29

Well, it looks like everyone has been busy lately, but that's not gonna stop this blog.

I'm a big fan of character design, I also think we should all be drawing until it hurts, so let's do some character designs...
I think for this week let's do..."An Army of ...One?
Instead of just going by the topic, let's do Five (5) different designs for one type of character, Military, Trooper, Pilot, Hitman, Warrior, Guerrilla Soldier, etc, etc. Some type of action like character, and think "Concept Art" I mean this is "Concepts" weekly.
It doesn't end there! let's see the progress, I am really impressed with the posts we get that show the progress, so do thumbnail, draw accessories, do sharpie silhouettes. Don't stress on polishing it.

here is a link to a page of reference, also browse the site if you'd like...

Big Bear!

I obviously was
thinking big with this one
I really enjoy stuff like this
because i can put a large amount
of detail, which makes it look
more interesting. I tought i should
                  do more using different famous
mountains, also I wanted to color it
but that's gonna have to come later
I really enjoyed this topic I just hope
I'm not the only one.........

WEEK 28

Well since no one else has posted a topic, I'll take it from here!

We were watching Monsters, inc. with my son today and I have to admit, I really love that movie, the one thing that really caught my attention was how, in the monster world, they lived almost exactly like humans, except a lot of what they did was opposite of our world...

So when it comes to animals, creatures, inanimate objects and the like, I love giving them human qualities, also called Anthropomorphism.
For this week I propose...."If only we were human"

If Pixar can make toys, bugs, cars and fish live with human qualities, why can't we come up with something original.

for anyone who may need a more thorough explanation... http://anthropomorphism.org/form.html

scarecrow

heres mine. a bit late and not done though.

Scarecrow

I spent many many minutes staring at our kitchen trying to get inspired. I liked the look of our microwave and went from there. On the back there is the grating where the fan blows out. That's what caught my eye the most. I also incorporated the boxy shape and the smooth surface. I doodled the first rough while lying in bed. I cleaned it up through tracing then trace inked it with a micron on tracing paper. I colored in photoshop using the beautiful multiply layers and the regular old default brush.

this week was a hard one

I wanted to do something in the way of Myazaki and failed!

Ideation Sketches

I wanted to explore some different
 possibilities for the scarecrow
It's quite fun to sketch
different ideas,
Also, I
like the
way we all get
pumped about drawing
thanks to Iain McCaig, then only
a week later the blog becomes forgotten again...

The Straw Ward

Wanted to give mine a bit of badass. I really like the three amigos of the OZ stories. For some reason, I thought it would be cool if the scarecrow had been a massive figure, watching over miles of fields.

Can't Scarecrow....

I decided to go with something silly...enjoy!

I will try to post more if I have time! I like the new changes.

Concept for this Week

Okay Thomas and y'all, Iain McCaig gave us some great tips on design last week. In order to create new and fresh designs, Mr. McCaig says to combine elements that wouldn't usually go together. During his lecture on Saturday it blew my mind when he decided to mix a FORK with a dragon in order to completely mix things up. I was really impressed at the results of the guy that completed the design.

On that note, let's go with a familiar story, The Wizard of Oz. We need a new design for The Scarecrow. Combine the traditional design with......at the top of my head......any item(s) you might find in your kitchen....

Tell us the reasons for your designs and if you can, show or tell us your process. I'm excited to see what everyone creates.

Week 27

Critical Update!!

Fill in the blank.....here is the deal. I want to continue this blog but cannot come up with the topics everyweek I need input from all of you to stay motivated and inspired. I want to leave it open to those who want to post the topic. The rule is as soon as Monday rolls around it could be midnight on Sunday (actaully 12:01am) and the first person to post the topic calls the shots for the following week. The rule is if you post and it is your topic if you dont post you get publically ridiculed or verbally pummelled ....well at least in cyber space by you fellow concept bloggers.

So with that being said who is gonna step up and post the next topic?

Dustin the site is begging for you to do a redesign

As a matter a fact if some one wants to do another banner feel free to have at it...the change would be welcome this is our forum. I would like to alternate the banner from time to time and have just a plain black background.

Oh yeah..Also no more deleting shit....I dont care when your post comes in as long as it gets done...in close proximity to the topic. Your narrative should be strong enough that we can discern which week it belongs too.

So let me know if you are on board.....and please spread the word to the other artist friends.

Sci fy mytho..Updates 8-20

this my take on Will's topic a minotaur in a sci-fi world....
I appologize not done yet I could(will) finish with another three to four hours want to add additional textures and color I will update it by Thursday.....thanks for the topic Will (but where is your post?)

Mechanical Tree

I just realized that I should get back to color. This is a still developiong character in a still developing story. Are there any story writers in the building? I've got all kinds of info and plots and characters for this particular story, but no idea on how to organize it all into the story that I want to tell.
I did this on tracing paper with a brush pen. I added values with a grey copic marker and other brush pens that are nearly dead. I had to use a white paint pen to make some changes.

New Topic?

Great posts everyone and great suggestions Dustin. I've been a ghost away from the machine myself but NOT anymore. I want to better my skills through this blog. I love the time frame challenge. I posted a pic way back when we did Mother goose and it took like 3hrs obviously a bit more if I did a BG but I think it can be fully rendered in a week or at least I think we should challenge ourselves to get that fast!

So with the abyss of participation and it being Monday I'd like to suggest we do(I hope we didn't already) a mix of Technology and Fantasy that tell a story with the piece... that makes sense visually without an essay behind it.

I think since technology was discussed I've notice movies in particular have become obsessed with technology and the flashy flash of CG while completely forgetting about story, thus producing crap! So from stories come fantasy. So lets try some o'd schoo' fantasy or mythos with an element of modern tech!

What does we thinks?

Don't Stop the Rock!

Let's keep it rollin'. This blog is a great way to explore new direction and possibilities. With no restrictions and a new theme each week we are able to get crazy. There are difficulties in participating each week. If a finished piece is unattainable then let's toss up our sketches. Critiques too. Everyone has insight and knowledge. Share it up!

Thought: Someone once told me that dedicating a sketchbook to different subjects can be a good idea. A sketchbook for hands, typography, character design...Concepts Weekly?

Let's keep this rock rollin' baby!

oh, and Thomas, what about a changing Concepts Weekly title bar? Maybe every other week or so. I'd love to throw something together.

The weakest weak week 25

All right I am about to pull the plug on this blog.....I would have loved to get to 52 weeks....but I feel like it is dying fast.

Thanks Dustin for posting this week....sorry that there has been no others to join you....present party included....maybe the topic sucked. I have always left it open to others to suggest topics.

This weeks topic is WAR WAR AND MORE WAR.....a galatic war....western war....word war.....spartan war.....you choose.... show me carnaige...explosions....weapons....Raging war on a dying blog......bloody glorious war!!!!
