Don't Even Breathe

This Piece was done in graphite on paper. I thought I'd go with a "monster" in a "locker room"
(See, even Andrew is scared of monsters!)

  1. I wish the enviroment was flushed out better to give indication to this being a locker room the open door doesnt read like a door because to the scale issue. My favorite part of this piece is the render on the man

  2. Yeah, Most of the time i spent on the piece was the man. I kinda rushed it with the Room and Monster, and Thank you.

  3. I agree with Tom....Woah me agree with Tom....wierd...lol jk. I think if you made another pass you could get a simply "indicated" BG and will strengthen this piece so much more. I love the idea and the tension that you already have but a more dynamic camera angle would help too. And I have to say....tentacles are so cliche dude. Is that supposed to be me? lol dude with a beard I guess we all look alike.

  4. Nice illustration man. Each week keeps getting better!

As for some critiques, the monster's head looks like it was just rendered straight in there because of the consistent lighting on the whole face. I think by showing more gradation it'll help sell it coming out from the dark, as certain parts of the body are hidden in light or don't recieve as much light. Great to see stronger value on this now. I think if you also pushed more shadows on the bottom half of the man's side, it wouldn't be so symmetrical in it's composition, and would indicate a clear focal point. Great work though dude.

  5. Yeah I agree with the critiques. This is a very cool piece with a lot of tension building up, this seems like a good time to use a dutched camera angle (MAYBE) and It would be nice to see the creature recede into the background a little more instead of just having a face sticking out of the the blackness, also since this is a low key image it would be nice to see the value range pushed a lot more in the foreground. overall cool piece.

  6. Came out nice, Joe. I did want to see the room, though.
