that pirate looks like andrew...whu!?

so here is an update... I dont know if I am going to keep the blood...

o.k. so for this week, I am working on a piece that illustrates what happens when ninjas and pirates meet... it is in its early stages... and even though I set it up, something is not jiving right... so i thought I'd post what I had in its raw unfinished form so that you could all be afforded a chance to give your input... I like the idea of telling it in two images, the before and after... first the pirates celebrate stealing the ninja pipe, but then the ninja takes it back along with their lives....

as you can see, I am just bleeding the detail in from one corner... I got to the captain and gave him a bit more attention, I plan to just chugga chugga the rest of this but I thought before I went further that I'd ask for your opinions... fire away!

  1. the detail in the back is amazing, i think if you color it you will like it much more and might get the "jive" that you're looking for. it's great that you posted in stages, it's always a treat to see someones process. again, seeing this in color would be awesome.

  2. Awesome concept! You really need to finish this one. Funny as hell.

  3. Just because you cant see them xv, it doesn't mean that they are not there... I cant see the wind, but I CAN feel the effects of the wind... and isn't this true of ninjas... often you will feel the blade and never see the ninja him or herself...

  4. Haven't you seen Ninja Assassin, xv? Nice piece, but I think you might have lost some of the subtleties with having the blood cover up some of the deaths occurring in the distance; I really liked the hanging-man from the mast from the idea stage. The wiggling tongue is a nice touch.

  6. I have seen the Ninja Assassin and I wish had not seen it, lol. Great job Butters, I really love the perspective with the ship and your line drawing is awesome. That pirate doesn't look like Andrew no more.
