Heracles 12 Labors

Heracles' 12 Labors. Good Times. Not quite up to what I wanted it to be, but I have other stuff to do. Good Topic.

As per Tom's Request, the twelve labors are (starting from the bottom left lion and working clockwise)
1. Slay the Nemean Lion
2. Slay the 9-headed Lernaean Hydra.
3. Capture to Golden Hind of Artemis.
4. Capture the Erymanthian Boar.
5. Clean the Augean stables in a single day.
6. Slay the Stymphalian Birds.
7. Capture the Cretan Bull.
8. Steal the Man-Eating Mares of Diomedes.
9. Obtain the Girdle from the Amazon Queen.
10. Obtain the Cattle from the monster Geryon.
11. Steal the Golden Apples of the Hesperides.
12. Capture and bring back Cerberus the three headed guard dog of the underworld.

Heracles was told to complete these quests to redeem himself after killing his own children (however, he was really driven mad by his mother-in-law, Hera).

I've always like this myth for its symbolism and its connection with the zodiac sign (really cool to look at the 12 labors and juxtapose them with the 12 zodiac).

  1. I like it....I think it would be nice if it were alittle more polished. This piece is a bit looser (line quality) than the other illustration you had posted and I think it works well....good job. it would also be nice to be able to tell maybe in the comments what those 12 labors were....even though most of us ar familiar with the myths.

  2. I really like this! especially how each labor, with its loose lines and splashed colour has such energy!

  3. You did great Jeff, I love your interpretation of Hercules. It gives me the sense of time with the labors arranged around him like numbers on a clock and his expression, he looks stressed. It definitely tells a story.

  4. The composition is really funny; the main character in the center with the other characters around him really brings out the chaos in the piece. I like your creature designs, the shapes you used are very strong and full of life. The only thing i'd say is add some dashes around the character in the bg, like when they reveal stuff you know? That would be funny. Cool idea, nice piece.

PS: Hope ya have a GOOD break!
