Monster

Not exactly in the room.

Here is another one (top) where I tried to explore some alternative directions from the critiques. I tried to make the relationship between monster and room more apparent.

  3. Another nice one Steve....even thought the monster is out of the room but I like it as a creature design. As far as an illustration you have a stong linear pull from the top of the buildings down to the stomach of the creature maybe some thing in that vacinity to give the eye an pay off....like a car or person cling for thier life. just my thoughts BTW was this one of the concepts you came up with when you were working at Blizzard??

  4. Ya, I came up with this during my time there. I have a long history of concept work, only a small part of this was at Blizzard, just so you know. Thanks for the suggestions, very much appreciated. My thinking for this was that the buildings are part of the creature so in a sense the creature is the room, also making him consequently in it. Maybe fusing the buildings into the texture of the monster would help? Thanks again.

  5. yeah that would definatley help or some earth and roots around the middle of the monster to make it look as it was uprooted...I love it tho...I cannot wait to see your character designs for Red Faction!!!

  6. Nice, didn't think you'd guys would be posting so early.

I think the composition is fine, but I thought it'd be cool to see it with a child with perhaps a building and an airport with a plane flying towards it. Wouldn't be necessary, as I think this is great though.

Tom is cool yet again lol.

  7. i think it would be great to see the buildings as if they were pushed out of the skin from the inside, like the core of the city is inside the creature as sort of protection from the outside elements. fuggin awesome though!

  9. wow! I like both of concept.
The first one remind me of the "Akupara" in Hindu. (I feel bad for people that living on his/her tail (problely there town will shake all day haha)
I very like the second one (I love trees!) its look like I can school without leaving my room at all. Using old guy to carry the room because of his back is leaning forward (that awsome!)

sorry if I spell something wrong..

  10. love your loose but technical style. Really like your cross hatching, from a distance it almost looks to me like a pencil render. The only thing bugging me in the first one is the crisp outline around the cast shadow, seems a little distracting. Really love the detail in the guys face and overall design of the character in your last post. I would like to see this guys right arm reaching towards us a little closer, possibly emphasing hes massive stature. I dont know if that would mess with the silheoute What else can I say, your stuff rocks. glad you are posting.

  11. crit on the painting. Good job...the colors are a little saturated I would go in and adjust the hue and saturation and tone it down it is real bright...but that is more of a personal choice. I think if you pushed the thick thin and soft and hard edges it will give it a more textured look in the branches. I would also push the material transition from flesh to foliage it looks as if he wearing a green shoulder pad. I seem to remember the break up was there I think it got lost in the painting. Another tip is to try experiment with the layers options changing it to multiply and overlay or other until you get the overall effect. Alot of artist try to preserve the original design by doing this. by just adjusting the opacity on the brushes you a painting on top and can loose alot of the original design. Good job tho keep them coming!

  12. like the painting, like the color choices, it could be me, but it looks like your missing that economy of line you are used to working with. sense your experimenting with the digital thing you might want to try using corel painter, I think its better at depicting traditional mediums, and theres not alot you need to fuss with in regards to brushes. There standard presets are pretty nice
