I didn't really illustrate any text specifically. I just wanted to make an evil version of Alice with a "cliched" tentacle arm. This is all I have time for this week as many term papers are in my immediate future. First time digital painting, so crits on that are most appreciated. I don't have a working wacom yet so it was all the laptop mouse.
laptop mouse... lol. you slay me Steve.
ReplyDeleteDid u draw this in digitally or with pen?, cause im sad at the fact that its better then my digital figure painting. I'm not sure what there is to crit really other then the "cliched" tentacle arm haha, thats the only thing I'm not really into about the picture itself. other then that great concept. I've never painted with a mouse, did u use photoshop or painter? and if you did us photoshop did u just use a soft round brush?
ReplyDeleteI did the drawing in pen first. Photoshop, and the round brush. Didn't really look through the other brushes.
ReplyDeleteI don't really see the need for other brushes myself, i guess in the end it can give a somewhat unique look to a persons art, but whatever, for the most part all you really need are the default brushes.
ReplyDeleteReally goes to show how much that knowledge of painting can easily translate into the digital medium. I don't want to say this Steve, but really, that's just effin sick how well that painting looks with just a mouse. I think it'd be funny seeing you work on the computer after seeing you draw and paint for so long lol
ReplyDeleteI like the colors on the right, with the energy being the same color as the ear, makes an interesting silhouette. That tentacle looks similar to a caterpillar. It'd be great to see that turned into a representation of the caterpillar, with mushrooms popping out of it. But again, great piece Steve.
with the mouse...ouch, painfull. You pulled it off very nicely though. One thing you might find intresting in the brushes tab (f5 on keyboard) under brush shape you can manipulate those cross hairs in that white box on the lower right. dragging on those points, you can squeeze the brush shape, given a more natural caligraphic look to your stroke. Also once you get a hold of tablet be sure to check the (other dynamics/opacity jitter/ pen pressure. Hope it helps.
ReplyDeletenice work I cannot wait to see what happens when you get a tablet..I am almost willing to give you mine....has a comic book feel to it but I think that is what you were going for...catapillar arm nice touch
ReplyDeleteThat sure is one evil Alice. Nicely done. I like the color style alot. Very comc book like.
